About Karen
As an Art Psychotherapist I have worked with children and adults impacted by stress, overwhelm and trauma. Having seen first-hand the complexities and distress caused by unresolved trauma, I felt the need to truly understand – on a physiological level – what was happening to my clients. I wanted to help them make lasting change that empowered them beyond the therapy room and into their everyday lives.
This led me to the wonderful world of Somatic Experiencing (SE),where my 3-year training fully equipped me to help people of all ages navigate their challenges. SE uses techniques and interventions that work directly, gently and safely with the neurophysiology of the body. What I particularly love about SE, which I feel sets it apart form other approaches to working with trauma, is that it focuses on building resources, capacity and it has the potential to be a joyful and uplifting experience.
However, I believe the most important aspect of therapy is the therapeutic relationship created between me and my clients. A relationship in which clients – whether children or adults – are listened to intently, without judgement, one that helps them to feel trust and one where they are helped to safely find a pace to make changes over time.
